2018 Alumni Reunion and Art Show
The Art Alumni Chapter of the JSU Alumni Association held an Alumni Reunion and Pop-up show Saturday, August 25th. The event offered alumni a chance to reconnect with the art department, alumni, and faculty, as well as, an opportunity to learn about the many changes the department has undergone over the last 5-8 years.
Alumni Chapter President Carol Record welcomed fellow alumni home and introduced department head Seth Johnson who spoke about the many changes that have taken place over the years including the additions of the Carlisle Fine Arts Facility and the Roundhouse, a new MFA program in Visual Communication Design, and an almost entirely new faculty roster. After an initial meet and greet, alumni were treated to a tour of the three art buildings and a small demonstration in the new lighting studio.
A closing reception was held for the Alumni Pop-up Show. The show included work by 20 alumni with graduates from as far back as 1977 and as recent as 2018. Works included paintings, photography, fine ceramic work, book design, mixed media, and a video of a live painting performance. The reception was sponsored by the Department of Art and the JSU Alumni Association with catering by Garfrerick’s of Oxford.
