Have you noticed “You Matter” posters and buttons around campus? What began as a simple concept has grown into something much bigger.

It all started when Dr. Tim King, Vice President of Student Affairs, was brainstorming ways to make students feel more welcome on campus. He and graduate assistant Brandon Vernon, an MFA candidate, hit upon the “You Matter” slogan and distributed posters and buttons throughout the Division of Student Affairs for Welcome Week.

What began as a short-term campaign has struck a nerve with campus. Other offices have gotten on board and asked to participate. Instead of slowing down, the campaign is gaining momentum. Dr. King is now handing out buttons, while supplies last, to any faculty or staff member who pledges to show all students world-class customer service as mandated by President Beehler.

“This campaign is designed to make sure we are ensuring that ALL students know that they are accepted and they belong here at JSU,” King said.
