MFA Candidate Brandon Vernon featured on MTV.COM!

31 Oct , 2015

Earlier this week, MFA Candidate Brandon Vernon had a body of his work featured on MTV.com. This is a huge milestone in the career of a visual artist. Brandon went to the School of Visual Arts in New York for his undergrad, majoring in Traditional Animation.

“I’ve worked on some fun animation shows, a music video, and some independent films…I’m also on imdb.com.” Brandon said.  He goes on to say that Traditional Animation is and was a dying art when he was an undergrad. “No one really knew if it could survive with movies like Shrek being the cool new thing.”

After graduating and working in a studio for a short time, Brandon moved back to Maryland and taught children’s art classes and discovered his passion for teaching. “I knew then I wanted to teach, so when I got the chance to go back to school for my MFA, I jumped on it.” he said. Now, as a JSU Grad Student, he designs most of the show posters for the Drama department as well as working on freelance while in school. “I’ve been drawing for as long as I can remember. There is a picture of me at the age of 3 sitting at a little table hunched over paper and crayons. My Mother doodled for fun, and I think she’s the one that ignited my love of art.”

Brandon gained this opportunity by sharing his work through social media. He was approached by an employee of the MTV studio team and asked if he would like to work on this project. So be sure to go check out his amazing work on MTV.com!
